There are a few who in the practice of meditation climb so high that they can see from the top of the mountain. They are the mystics, to be found in all religions. The rest of us trudge along the foothills, knowing we may never glimpse the summit. And the journey is rarely easy. All who have walked the route to Compostela know how rough the terrain can be, and how on arrival at a hostel one sometimes finds the toilet rolls have run out or one is kept awake by the loud snores of fellow travellers! A pilgrimage makes demands. But we plod on!
It feels as if we are all having to plod on at the moment doesn’t it! But we continue.
It is now just over one year since James died, but he seems to be with us still. Thankyou for these encouraging thoughts.
I’ve been with the idea of keeping going, one foot in front of the other and images of mountains lately. Often James’ posts arrive with surprising synchronicity – I am very grateful for the gift
of his wisdom this long after his death.
So lovely to hear from you James, every month.
but are you still in the foothills, I wonder??
Humanity’s foothills are certainly steep, rocky and precipitous at the moment but this season is a good reminder of those who have gone before and have an an understanding of the challenges we face and share the hope that we have together in Christ. James has put his finger on it again with his encouragement to “plod on”.
With love, and heartfelt thanksgiving for Jame’s life and for all who are linked by this post.
