The Sufi master Llewelyn Vaughan-Lee writes in one of his books, ‘There are as many routes to God as there are individuals.’ As the composer John Taverner said, ‘ There is only one absolute being. Whether you call it God, Allah or Brahman, God gave to each tradition different Saviours and Avatars. Christ is God for the Christian world, as Krishna is God for the Hindus.’ We have to go beyond labels to what lies at the very heart of existence. As a small boy, whom I have quoted before, once said to me with passion, ‘God is a feel, not a think!’
What an excellent article of universal truth. This message is
of supreme importance as we enter the New Year of 2022.
Dear Jimmie, wth love.
An excellent “feel” at that!
I agree, to a point. But why do we need saviours? Why does a new born babe need a saviour?
I AM USING THE WORD SAVIOUR IN THE SENSE OF SOMEONE WHO SAVES ONE FROM DANGER – RATHER THAN IN ITS CHRIS TIAN CONTEXT. ALL THE GREAT TEACHERS ALERT US TO THE IMPORTANCER OF FINDING A RIGHT PATH- HOW TO MAINTAIN AN INNER BALANCE, FROM BUDDHA TO JESUS ETC. I HOPE THIS CLARIFIED! J
Always deep and reflective thinking…. James is a man who points towards God but allows the individual to discover the way…..
Happy New Year Dear James. I love this ‘post’. It is broad and deep, and inclusive as Jesus was in his earthly ministry. That wisdom is what we all need on a path home, ‘beyond lables’; we catch glimpses of it and they are encouraging . I have often wondered what happened to that little boy who had the wisdom to understand the direction of travel so young…?
With Love
Diana
Thank you, James. Each of us is on our own unique pilgrimage, but teachers as yourself can offer guidance on the way.
Happy New Year
