Struggling on

Often we are tempted to give up the struggle, be it the practice of meditating or simply the struggle for life. It is good, therefore, to be reminded of what one of the tramps says in Samuel Beckett’s Waiting for Godot: ‘I can’t go on. I must go on. I will go on.’ As Jesus said, ‘No one, having put their hand to the plough and looking back, will enter the kingdom of God.’ We must forge ahead. Commitment is everything.

  1. Certainly commitment is hugely significant. It strikes me this Holy Week that as Christians it is possible to become so committed to particular institutional or personal views that we can flounder and become myopic, losing the focus example of Jesus’ way of life.
At a Lent Group we heard an interpretation of of his words , “I the way” that I would like to share with you.
For me the interpretation that follows was very, very helpful and impressed the importance of dropping all the other ‘noise’ that might be in our lives at this very demanding time for the whole Church and for the world, and observing his example as we follow the road this week, with him, from Palm Sunday to the Cross and beyond, to the Resurrection at Easter: It is simply this:

    “Be the way I am.”

I am so thankful for the nudge that James’ words have given me to share this with you. May you find it helpful as I do.
Wishing you all a committed journey and Holy preparation through Holy Week to the Cross and beyond, to a Peaceful, Joyful, Easter.

  2. In the States I am struggling so much with the perversion of every that is decent. I know how outraged Jimmie was before. Everyday I want to crawl back under the covers. I have friends who have forgot chose to overlook friends who decided to vote on the worst inclinations. I can’t view this as a Political Opinion. Complete Moral degradation. Paralyzed, every day. What can I do. I can’t do anything. I can’t move. I must move. I must go on
I must do Something. I must do one thing. In meditation I find calm. In the Beatitudes I find purpose. In JRE I find peace and strength. Cathie Albair USA
